Art at Hammond School is taught by a specialist art teacher. Art activities also take place within the classroom. Children have the opportunity to practise the skills of drawing, painting, collage, sculpting and printing.  Lessons are designed to support learning about one or more of the formal elements of art.

We have a beautiful new specialist art space at Hammond: the ‘Art Hub’, where children can enjoy learning about works of art called ‘key artworks’.  These are embedded into almost every lesson, and they provide a stimulus for discussions as well as a point of inspiration for the practical part of the lessons. Children can make both visual and verbal links between their art and the key artwork. Key artworks range from early woodblock prints to more contemporary pieces, by well-known and lesser known artists.

This Autumn half term artists include; Fernand Leger, Katsushika Hokusai, Gustav Klimt and Antoni Gaudi.
