The well-being of the children is of great importance to us and we work hard to ensure that each child is supported emotionally as well as academically.  Their successes are celebrated and children are always encouraged to achieve.

Children learn best when they are happy, confident and secure, and we ensure that the opportunities we offer build every child’s self-esteem and support their development as responsible and caring people. At Hammond we focus on the devlopment of the whole child, ensuring that our children develop into well rounded people who are responsible, tolerant, caring and respectful towards others. We have a full programme of social and emotional learning which enables children to talk through themes such as building relationships, changes, getting on and falling out and the best ways to handle difficult times and the feelings these bring. In this way children are well prepared to take the next step on to secondary school.

Celebrating our children's successes, their achievements in learning, and how they are growing as young people is important to us. Our Celebration Assemblies focus on celebrating achievements against the four aspects of our vision - Learning, Enjoying, Growing and Achieving.

Over the year we focus on six values, one per half term.  These are:

  • Respect
  • Co-operation
  • Resilience
  • Thoughtfulness
  • Trust
  • Responsibility

We focus on the meaning of each value and how we can demonstrate these in our assemblies and PSHE lessons throughout the term.

We are committed to Unicef's Convention of the Rights of the Child and have achieved Level 2 status, recognising our successs and wide ranging delivery of these rights throughout our work in school.
