Behaviour & Discipline

Children at Hammond School develop a strong sense of personal responsibility through a consistently fair and robust Behaviour and Discipline Policy which has our six core values at its core. These are:

  • Respect
  • Cooperation
  • Resilience
  • Thoughtfulness
  • Trust
  • Responsibility

Procedures for promoting discipline and good behaviour involve the Ladders of Success with each child starting the day afresh on the same level and being rewarded or disciplined depending on their behaviour. If a child reaches Silver they are placed into the Wow book, and reaching Gold results in a postcard from the Headteacher being sent home. Children who have demonstrated the school's values and have had some great achievements are celebrated in our fortnightly Celebration Assemblies.

All school staff are responsible for the development of our policy for Behaviour and Discipline and have agreed expectations and strategies.  Pupils are encouraged to be responsible for themselves and to care for others. There are high levels of good social behaviour from pupils within the school.  When incidents do occur they are discussed with the child at the time using a 4 step Restorative Approach as detailed in our policy.  If behaviour persists, concerns are discussed with the individual child and their parents. A copy of our Behaviour and Discipline Policy can be accessed through the link below.

Our policy and approach is enhanced by our school’s Rights Respecting culture that is part of the daily life of the school. Pupils are fully aware of boundaries and are expected to respond to the strict standards of behaviour set out in the school’s policy. Breaches of these boundaries result in consequences and sanctions and every classteacher ensures children are aware of these.

Bullying is not tolerated. Children are actively taught what bullying is, the types of behaviours it entails and what to do if they feel they are being bullied. A copy of our anti-bullying policy can be accessed here.
